Buddy is a Community College product. He attended Hutchinson Community Kansas and later transferred to Bethany College where he received a Bachelor of Art's in Health and Physical Education. He just recently completed his Master's of Education from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Educational Leadership. He has been with South Mountain Community College for 18 years. 

Initially recruited as a program advisor for  the Achieving a College Education (ACE) program, and over ten years experience in student services he brings a very strong student first attitude to the office of student life and leadership. Has since accepted the position of Director, Student Life & Leadership at South Mountain Community College. He enjoys working with the community and makes a regular practice of facilitating events at a state and national level.
 
A dedicated advocate of leadership and education, Buddy Cheeks regularly participates in causes devoted to community youth. As an active member of the Member Council on Black American Affairs (MCBAA) and the YMCA, he has organized model legislative clubs at several valley high schools.
