Julie Holston has been teaching, directing, and producing theatre in the Phoenix area for over twenty years. In addition to academic settings, she works locally as a freelance director/dramaturg with alternative, community and professional theatres. She has studied with Tectonic Theatre Project, SITI Company, the Centre for Playback Theatre, and Shakespeare & Company, and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts through Goddard College. Locally, she conducts trainings in Creative Drama, Theatre for Social Change, Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, and Shakespeare’s First Folio method, and has presented numerous workshops at state, national and international theatre festivals. Currently serving as the Theatre Instructional Council Chair for the Maricopa Community College District, she and her students maintain active involvement in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, where she serves as the Region VIII Circuit 4 Coordinator. Several of the productions Julie has directed at South Mountain Community College and other venues have received ariZoni nominations in multiple categories, including Best Director and Best Overall Production.
